Punta Loma

Punta Loma is conceived as a coastal retreat where landscape and architecture are designed as a single, interconnected system. Located along a remote stretch of Costa Rica’s Pacific coastline, the project transforms previously impacted land through strategic grading, ecological restoration, and thoughtful site planning. Developed by VIDA in collaboration with John Maniscalco Architecture, the masterplan reshapes the ridge into a series of carefully positioned parcels that maximize ocean views while preserving the integrity of the surrounding landscape. Reforestation plays a central role in the project, introducing mature native species that establish an evergreen canopy and reinforce a sense of immersion within the natural environment. Water management systems are integrated into the landscape through a network of infiltration swales that simultaneously support drainage, circulation, and guest experience. The architecture remains secondary to the site, positioned discreetly away from the cliff edge to preserve the coastline as a shared communal amenity. Through architectural photography, the intention was to capture the dialogue between landscape, topography, and architecture, highlighting how the project balances environmental restoration with contemporary coastal living.
